Posted 21.09.2008, 10:51 by Mr Sparkle
Announcements Image
Reet folks, I am organising another of the Full Moon walks. Friday night 17th Oct. Meet @ Sunnyhurst at 7.00pm. I am reverting to the original route i.e. straight up to the Tower and then to Aggies and onto the Royal for chip butties and ale. Headtorches recommended.
Please note this is open to ALL - friends, partners, whoever. I would ask you to let me have a £1 donation to CRY again, please.
I look forward to seeing you on the night!

Simon.

Cross Country Season 2008
Posted 07.09.2008, 18:24 by Linda loo
Announcements Well, it's that time of year again...

RED ROSE CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE
2008

Mud mud and more mud….. Mince Pies, Christmas cake, Baileys and Ice, Chocolate Rolls, what more could you want?

Add a bit of mud, rain, wind and sometimes sleet & you have the perfect Cross Country Meeting on a Saturday afternoon.

For those that are new to the club and have not been fortunate enough to take part in any XC races, you are in for a treat. They are good fun, they are excellent ways of building up some strength, it is gentler on your body than the road, especially on your knees and hips and back, they also helps develop dexterity and balance and a sense that you can handle challenges and changes in the sometimes difficult terrain. The ups, downs, turns and unevenness makes your body use all different muscles; thus giving you a good workout. Cross country running also improves concentration and makes you stronger.

We are affiliated to The Red Rose Cross Country League and races are held every year. There are 4 races in the season. Some of us meet at The Craven and travel together, the rest arrange transport between themselves.

It would help me if you could let me know if you do wish to take part in any of them. I have to register everyone who I think will take part before the season starts & we as a club pay for the entry to all the races & again this has to be done before the first race, so if we can make it more efficient, it will help greatly. We can of course, enter people on the day if we have to, but this can cause a bit of stress, especially if you turn up 5 minutes before I run as I am the one who has to go & enter you. It also helps Graham, the results guy if you are pre-entered.

The dates are:

2008 Cross Country Fixtures

All fixtures now start at 12.30pm

Sat 11th October, Blackburn (Witton Park)
12.30pm

Sat 25th October, Bury (Chesham Fields)
12.30pm

Sat 15th November, Bolton (Leverhulme Park)
12.30pm

Sat 20th December, Rossendale (Marl Pits)
12.30pm

A club vest must be worn in all races. Every competitor is allocated with a number, which MUST be worn on the front of your club vest. No competitor will be allowed to start unless he/she complies with this rule. The number you are allocated with must be worn as issued and not be cut, folded or otherwise concealed or mutilated in any way. Any such alteration will lead to disqualification and you have to keep the same the number for all the races. We have NO duplicate numbers.

Please come along & have a go at these races, they are a lot of fun! I will post more info on them nearer the time. The more the merrier.

Please have a look at the website for further info:

www.redrosecrosscountry.co.uk

If you would like to have a go at this series of races, please see Linda C for info, or email me as soon as possible with your date of birth then I can register you.

I have to register everyone by 17th September.

Entry Form for this years Ribble Valley 10k
Posted 16.08.2008, 08:58 by MileMuncher
Announcements Sunday 28th December at the usual venue in Clitheroe starting at 11:00am.

This year we have worked with Ribble Valley Borough Council, their safety officers and Lancashire Police in organising the race so that it is traffic free, which means that the runners will be racing in a much safer environment, and will also allow more runners to enter.

BE SEEN - BE SAFE
Posted 15.08.2008, 06:56 by "THE GAFFER 2"
Announcements On browsing through the freebee supplements of the freebee rag I came accross this high viz jacket in the JYSK brochure.

OK, its a safety vest but at just 99p Shocked then it just has to be a bargain Exclamation

EVERY year runners right accross the globe seem to have this idea that their black helli's and dark but "very smart" expensive running jackets are bomb and car proof and that motorists the world wide can see around corners and are ALWAYS on the look out for runners appearing from nowhere!............NOT!!!! Mad

http://www.jysk.co.uk/97/491/495/5855700/a/catalog

There is a new JYSK store behind the ice arena in Blackburn.

Might I also suggest the the club purchase a "wod" of these and have them available on winter club nights?

Cheers

Shane
