Woke up this morning and it was pouring with rain. Janet came with Mick and Sheila, we arrived got our numbers, and just enough time for the toilet stop. It was freezing at the start so it was good to get going, Mick was in front and Janet and Sheila and myself had decided this was going to be a training run and we would be running ten min mileing.
We had just run around a corner and we did not know what had hit us it was blowing a gale, it was two steps forward and eight back, we hoped this was not going to be all the way around the route, but oh yes most of the route and to just add a little extra we got sand blasted, it was so sore ,and you could not see where you was running, the sand just whipped at you.
Anyhow we did our best to keep to our race plan.
With around two miles to go we drifted apart we could not hear each other as the wind/sand was still hitting us.
We finnished in around two hours, Mick did fantastic in around 1 hour 49 mins. We got changed and had a little feast and waited for Pete who was running the marathon all we kept thinking of was we only had to run half a marathon in that weather, he came in, in such an amazing time which was around 4 and a half hours a big well done Pete!
We even got sunburnt, unbelievable. That race was one different race. A big well done to all.

Sand blasted!! I could hear runners screaming as we turned into the wind. First time I’ve ran with my eyes closed – it seemed like the safer option. Good effort everyone – few PBs but lots of stories to share.

The wind was a joke!! but who do you blame- GOD??- probably took around 20 -30 mins off my run time, couldnt believe it was that strong, the sand was a problem as well, like being hit with a thousand needles at 40mph at the same time- it was a test!!

Rich and Liam a massive well done to you both.
There will not be a race like it again.
