Frequently Asked Questions

How large is Blackburn Road Runners

The club has a membership of about 300 running members.  The turnout on a Wednesday evening is usually about 60 to 80 runners for the weekly club run.

When & where do you meet?

Wednesday at Witton Country Park.  Meet at the car park at 6:50pm, ready to run at 7.00pm.  Each week other adhoc runs are announced for the week.  Generally, once a month, we arrange a Run & Eat from a different venue.

Am I good enough to join?

If you can jog for 3 miles then no problem 🙂

Am I too old or too young?

Our club members ages range from 18 to 75+

But I’m just a jogger?!

For every fast runner, we have ten with much more modest aims.

Is the group split into varying groups?

On a Wednesday, the group splits into smaller groups depending on ability.

How serious is the training?

As serious as you like! We have joggers who sometimes want to go out for a gentle run around the streets and others so keen to improve that they join in the tougher sessions.  Our top people can be seriously stretched and at the same time our slower members are inspired to improve.  Everyone who joins us is interested in getting fitter but the degree of seriousness varies from committed athlete to social jogger.

For those of a competitive nature – we have a club championship table.  Results of those entering official 5 Mile, 10K, 10 Mile, Half and Full marathons are added to a league table.

Do we run on the road all of the time?

Whilst we may be a road running club primarily, we do cater for cross-country, fell and hill running, especially during the summer months when there is generally always the option to run off-road.

Will I be left behind?

NO – We make sure that everyone is included and no one is left behind.

How much does it cost to join BRR?

We allow a period of “trying us out”.

If you then wish to join, Full 1st Claim membership includes a payment to England Athletics for registration – which gives a discount when entering races.  It must be stressed that only paid-up members may represent the club and only paid-up members are covered by club insurance.

Are there any Social Activities?

Sure – It’s not all about running – Members are welcome to come along to various events/activities throughout the year.  Our social activities are superb and the envy of other clubs, our runners from front to back support each other at races and other events.  We have a number of social members who join runners in supporting and marshalling at races.
