We are a friendly group of mixed abilities and ages who just want to run with others in a more social, motivating environment.
How large is Blackburn Road Runners
The club has a membership of about 200. The turnout on a Wednesday evening is usually about 50 to 70 runners.
When & where do you meet?
Wednesday at Witton Park (car park). Meet at 6:50pm, ready to run at 7pm. Each week other adhoc runs are announced for the weekend. Once a month, we arrange a Run & Eat from a different venue – see our calendar, or Facebook page for details.
The location address of Witton Country Park is:
Preston Old Road
Am I good enough to join?
If you can jog for 3 miles then no problem 🙂
Am I too old or too young?
Our club members ages range from 18 to 75+
But I’m just a jogger?!
For every fast runner we have ten with much more modest aims.
Is the group split into varying groups?
On a Wednesday, the group splits into smaller groups depending on ability.
How serious is the training?
As serious as you like! We have joggers who sometimes want to go out for a gentle run around the streets and others so keen to improve that they join in the tougher sessions. Our top people can be seriously stretched and at the same time as our slower members are inspired to improve. Everyone who joins us is interested in getting fitter but the degree of seriousness varies from committed athlete to social jogger.
For those of a competitive nature – we have a club championship table. Results of those entering official 5 Mile, 10K, 10 Mile, Half and Full marathons are added to a league table.
Do we run on the road all of the time?
We are a road running club primarily but during summer months there is the option to run off road.
Will I be left behind?
NO – we ensure that no one is left behind.
How much does it cost to join BRR?
We allow a period of “trying us out”.
If you then wish to join, membership for the club year is £27. (This includes a payment of £10 to England Athletics for registration – which gives discount when entering races). It must be stressed that only paid up members may represent the club and only paid up members are covered by club insurance.
Are there any Social Activities?
Sure – It’s not all about running – Members are welcome to come along to various events/activities throughout the year. In the past year these have included the Christmas Party, Club Walks, Obstacle challenge, theatre trip and nights out.
